Taanka which means a ‘Stitch’ is a humble initiative started in 2015 with the aim to give livelihood to the artisans and keep the tradition alive. Inspiration is drawn from age old textile techniques that are both simple and sophisticated. Our textiles speak of the maker’s hand; each piece is unique in its own way. “Indigo story” is a collection of handcrafted scarves inspired by the simple elements like dots, stripes & checks. We also make a conscious effort to utilise fabric remnants by utilising hand and machine techniques.
What the designer says: While I was studying fashion at NIFT, I was completely drawn to the beautiful textile heritage of India. My passion for textiles led me to further study textile design from the National Institute of Design (NID)Ahmedabad. Extensive work experience with the international market has helped me perceive Indian textiles with a modern approach. I treasure my years of work experience wherein I got an opportunity to work with some of the most dynamic market segments like Japan & Europe. It has given varied skill set and the ability to work with different types of people.”
Taanka Design was founded by Sonam Gupta, a textile designer/maker based in India. Imbyou is very pleased to collaborate with Sonam and showcase her ethereal fine Khadi Scarves.
